WC Final Day 3: Postponement Lit Up By Olympic Star
Published Fri 08 Jun 2018
Two days of sunshine and breeze turned grey, still and rainy at the World Cup Series Final in Marseille, but the sailors were treated to a visit by French Minister of Sport, Laura Flessel, one of France’s most successful Olympians.
The Day 3 postponement meant 470W crew Nia Jerwood and Monique de Vries will have to wait for a new opportunity to improve on their 16th placing after four races, while 470 colleagues Mat Belcher and Will Ryan remain in third place in the men’s division, also after four races.

Flessel greeted sailors and officials on an otherwise frustrating day. If the Minister was offering tips on achieving Olympic success, she was certainly worth listening to - Flessel is the winner of five Olympic medals, including two gold, in fencing, as well as six World Championship gold medals. The popular politician is one of the key players behind the organisation of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Conditions are expected to clear and the wind return for Day 4.
