Silver Medal For Australia At Medemblik
Published Sun 27 May 2018
A dominating win in the medal race has ensured a hard-earned silver medal for Australian 49er pair David Gilmour and Joel Turner at the Medemblik Regatta in The Netherlands overnight.
The top-ranked Aussie duo scored four wins in the last seven races of the series, including the double points finale, to finish 17 points ahead of third placed Argentinians Yago Lange and Klaus Lange and 10 points shy of French pair Lucas Rual and Emile Amoros, who sailed strongly all week to win gold.
The silver medal is an encouraging result with the World Championships in Denmark little over two months away.
Australia's other pair in the 49er class, Lachy Gilmour and Ryan Donaldson, ended the regatta in 14th place.
Jacinta Ainsworth, a former youth champion who is returning to sailing after taking time out to study, came a fine seventh in the Laser Radial class.
