As we approach Paris 2024, Australian Sailing is excited to continue introducing members of the 12-strong team representing our nation at the Games.

One half of the 49er FX duo setting sail in Marseille is Olympic debutant, Evie Haseldine. We asked the young sailor a couple of questions ahead of the big event.

Why do you love sailing the Skiff?
I love sailing the Skiff because I get to do it with someone else - it’s really cool when we get our movements, our thoughts and our actions in sync. You get this really amazing feeling of being at one with the wind and the waves.

Who got you into sailing?
I got into sailing because my dad is a sailor. He got me into the learn to sail course and also taught me a bit about the ropes himself as well.

Who was your sailing inspiration growing up?
My childhood inspiration was actually Olivia Price who I actually sail on the 49erFX with now. She went to the London 2012 Olympic Games and won a silver medal and that really inspired me to go after an Olympic goal of my own.

What is your favourite place to sail in Australia?
My favourite place would definitely be Sydney Harbour. There’s so many different features and places to sail on the Harbour, whether you’re in the bays, offshore out the heads or in the Sound where it can get a bit messy. We’re really lucky to have a mix of conditions.

Outside of Australia, where is your favourite place to sail?
I actually really enjoy sailing in Marseille, it’s a wide open bay but can be very tricky with geographic differences, some mountains and islands. Every day is different but really cool at the same time

What would you say to someone who is thinking they might want to give sailing a try?
If you want to try sailing it doesn’t matter what age you are. There’s so many sailing clubs that offer amazing programs, whether you want to learn to sail a dinghy or on a yacht with other people. It’s a super welcoming sport and great for all ages
