Published Fri 21 Sep 2018
Five members of the Australian Para Sailing Squad are competing in the Para World Sailing Championships, being sailed at Sheboygan on Lake Michigan, USA.
On the second day of racing, sailors were presented with cloudy skies and a North Easterly wind around 7-10 knots. Three races were completed for the Norlin 2.4 OD class and the Hansa 303 Women's class enjoyed six races to catch up on their single race completed on the opening day.
The Hansa 303 Men's class were able to complete two races to give them six races for the regatta so far. The Australian sailors are enjoying the conditions in Sheboygan.

Matt Bugg in the 2.4 was best on day two with a 2, 1, 1 scoreline to take the lead.
“Everything felt good today. I had the right sail combination up and the boat was tracking really fast”, Matt said.
“I played the shifts well and this gave me the good consistent results. Still plenty of races to go but I'm feeling good after the first 2 days”.
Also in the 2.4 is Neil Patterson who had a consistent day at the front of the fleet. He showed some brilliance when seen leading at the first mark of race 4.
In the Hansa 303 Men's, Chris Symonds is sitting in 2nd overall, but it is a close battle.
“I'm really enjoying the competition here in Sheboygan. The standard of sailors at the front of the fleet is very high but I'm feeling good at the moment and looking forward to the rest of the week”, said Chris.

West Australian Robert Crofts also sailing in the 303 Men's division and experiencing his first international event. He is happy with his efforts so far and his results are improving with each race as the regatta progresses.
Australia’s two Squad members competing in the Hansa 303 Women's completed six races today on the short courses. Overall after seven races, Genevieve Wickham sits in 5th and Alison Weatherly is in 8th. They are both looking forward to improving and moving up the results board in the next few days of competition.
Australian Team Coach, Grant Alderson, is pleased with the team’s results today.
“All our sailors fared well today with some outstanding results coming from some of them. With more wind forecast tomorrow, I expect we will see more consistent results again from our Australian sailors”, said Grant.
The 2018 Para World Sailing Championships conclude on Sunday, September 22 with a double points medal race for Norlin 2.4 OD and a winner takes all final for the Hansa 303 Men & Women after semi-finals are completed on Saturday.
