Australian Pairs Start Well At Medemblik
Published Wed 23 May 2018
Australia’s two top 49er crews are in the top 10 after the opening day’s racing at the Medemblik Regatta in The Netherlands.
After an initial delay due to lack of wind, David Gilmour and Joel Turner scored 4, 3 and 7 from the three scheduled races to hold fifth place, while Lachy Gilmour and Ryan Donaldson scored 7, 3 and 8 to end up ninth.
“We had a solid day today, making some good progress and capitalising on some light and variable conditions in a fairly competitive fleet,” Lachy Gilmour said.
“We’re looking to work on a few things over the next few days before we head back to Australia.”
David Gilmour said: "The conditions over here are pretty nice, it's good to see the sun out and I've seen that wind conditions will be better tomorrow.
“We’re really looking forward to the racing this week, it's a big fleet so good practice for us. In Australia we don't have many 49ers … To have 52 49ers at the starting line is a good preparation for the coming events."
