Joel Turner, a former Junior World Champion, joined forces with David Gilmour in 2016 and the pair had immediate success, claiming the 2017 49er National Championship. They then comfortably claimed victory at Kieler Woche in Germany and got on the podium at the World Championships Test Event. Turner’s sporting hero is 2012 Olympic gold Medallist Tom Slingsby.

Advice to Young Sailors

Think big, the very best sailors are still normal people who can be beaten. Make sure you always enjoy your sailing and don’t turn it into a chore.
