Australian Sailing Team (AST)
The AST is composed of the top-tier sailors who have demonstrated exceptional performance and consistency at the highest levels of competition. Athletes selected for the AST must meet stringent benchmarks, including:
- Consistent top 10 finishes at Olympic Class World Championships.
- Medal performances at key international regattas.
- Proven ability to compete and succeed under high-pressure conditions.
- High % world ranking in their class, with a trajectory towards the top 10%.
These sailors are provided with world-class coaching, access to advanced sports science and medicine, and cutting-edge technology to optimize their performance. The AST focuses on preparing athletes for podium finishes at the Olympic Games and other major international events.
Australian Sailing Pathway Team (ASPT)
The ASPT serves as a crucial development platform for emerging talent. Selection to the ASPT involves meeting specific benchmarks that demonstrate potential for future success, such as:
- Strong performances at national championships and international youth regattas.
- Progression in skill development and competitive results.
- Commitment to a structured training and competition program.
- World ranking in their class, with potential to progress into the AST.
The ASPT is designed for sailors on the cusp of AST qualification, or have been identified for long-term Olympic success based on their promising trajectory, skills and approach to elite racing.
