Out in black at the 2022 iQFOiL World Championships

The sun was out in Brest today, which will change as the weekend approaches, with a high chance of rain, and stronger Southerlies all part of the package. It also served to highlight the plight of two of Australia’s sailors, Grae Morris and Samantha Costin, who earned the dreaded Black Flag for being over at the start at the 2022 iQFOiL World Championships.

Significant shifts, and changes up and down range in the winds off Brest in France were the hallmark of the second day’s racing at the 2022 iQFOiL World Championships. In spite of the challenges this brings, several of Australia’s sailors managed to improve their standings in the 162 and 102 board fleets for our Men and Women, respectively.

Thursday’s racing at the 2022 Formula Kite Worlds gave the 150+ athletes their first tase of Cagliari’s tricky north-westerly offshore breeze. The fading wind was made even more challenging for the racers with the buildings lining the coastline, with the race committee ending up sending the men away for two races and the women just the one.
