Paris 2024 is fast approaching and in the lead up to the Games, Australian Sailing is proud to introduce the Australian Sailing Team members representing our country.
One half of the 470 duo setting sail in Marseille is Conor Nicholas, set to debut alongside Tokyo 2020 Olympian, Nia Jerwood.
We asked a couple of questions to the Western Australian sailor ahead of the big event.

What do you love about Sailing?
Sailing gives you such a feeling of freedom. Sailing allows me to be out on the water every day and just really enjoy being amongst the elements. There’s nothing else in the world like sailing for me.
What do you love about the 470 class?
The freedom and the speed, the fact that I get to sail alongside one of my best friends. It’s really an endless list.
Do you remember your first sailing experience?
I do! I still remember putting on a big, baggy wetsuit that was about 10 sizes too big for me. Since then I have just never looked back, I’ve loved every minute of it.
Who has inspired you on your sailing journey?
A lot of people have inspired me, including my family and friends. Someone who has inspired me more recently to get back in the boat after taking some time would also have to be Matt Wearn. He is quite inspiring, and I don’t think he actually knows that, but he’s had a big influence on me being here today.
What would you say to someone looking to try their hand at sailing?
Have a go! Go down to your local sailing club, there’s wonderful people down there that will help you enrol and find the right type of boat for you. It’s truly a community that makes you feel welcome.
It’s a sport for all ages, it takes you all over the world and helps you achieve such wonderful things.
Where is your favourite place to sail?
Controversial but I’m going to say Lake Macquarie. It's dead flat water and you get a really good breeze. It’s great for foiling boats and just a great time.
